[Solved] Annotate an image with captions

Post by olddoggeorge »

I have multiple images on a page.
I now need to write captions over blank areas of the image.
Is there a way to position the cursor to a place on top of the image, and create text there?

Edit: Changed subject, was How to write over an image

Take a look at drawing objects - View Menu/Toolbars/Drawing.

One way might be to set an image as the background for a drawing textbox.

Edit: or you could do the same with a TextFrame - insert Menu/Frame

Note that there are fields to automate the numbering of the captions. They will update if you move the pics or add/remove them.
You can try with the Insert caption feature (select your pic first).

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

Thank you for the reply, but not an answer for me.
Let me put this another way; I want to treat images as background. I want to apply multiple images to a page, and then be able to put text OVER the images without restriction. Right now, I cannot have text and images in the same place. That is stifling what I am trying to do. I need to remove all constraints regarding where to put text without regard to images. Effectively, I want to put images on one layer, and text on a different layer, where the layers are completely independent of each other.

Writer isn't a drawing program, or a desktop publisher. It doesn't have layers but each drawing shape can be moved behind or in front of other drawing shapes - effectively each has its own layer. Why don't those do what you want?
