copying within cells

Postby raichlea » Tue Apr 15, 2008 12:20 am

Hi all and thanks in advance

I am trying to copy a cell hundreds of times by dragging.

If I type something "text-only" into the cell and then drag the plus sign for awhile, it will copy the contents as many times as I want. However. if there is a number at the end like "NK1" it automatically increments the number when I drag to NK2, NK3, etc. I don't want this to happen... Is there a way to turn this off?

Normally this behavior is desired. What I would recommend that I have done previously is to put NV1 in cell A1 and NV1 in cell A2, then highlight BOTH A1 and A2 and drag to copy. You have just set the increment pattern to NOT increment.

Holding Ctrl while doing a drag-fill will also force a simple copy of the first cell. You can hold Ctrl while dragging, or just press it at the end, just before you release the mouse button.

It can be quicker to select the range you want to fill, type the entry, and press Alt+Enter instead of just Enter.
