[Solved] Template save issue

Postby ricaltman » Sat Dec 14, 2019 7:31 pm

I created a template that has protected cells and "Sheet" is protected. But when I creat a new document from that template, seems the protection disappears.

Any sheet of the template containing settings like cell formats including protection will preserve these settings in the derived new document. NEW sheet created subsequently are not created as copies from a given sheet but from the internal defaults. If you want to get a second sheet having properties taken from a first one in the template, you need to do it by the 'Move/Copy' item of the context menu of its tab.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I am unable to reproduce this problem when I save the template in OTS format (File → Save As → File type → ODF Spreadsheet Template.

When I open that template, a new document is created with a protected sheet and cell A1's formula is hidden.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

I've done that a hundred times but no luck. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. When I save it, does just the "Sheet" need to be activate or does the "Document" need to be activated too?

1. Format cells by checking "Protected."
2. Then Turned on "Sheet" protection.
3. Saved file as .ots

Now I realize the cells I thought were not protected when creating a new document from a template ARE protected. It's odd when you protected the template, you cannot select the protected cells but when you create a new spreadsheet from the template, you CAN select the cells, just not modify them. I assumed that when I could select them, I could modify. You can't.

When I protect the sheet, there is an option to keep a new user from selecting locked cells. This what is not being carried over.
