Add 170 photos via path

Postby JacopoTore » Thu Nov 14, 2019 12:30 pm

Hi everyone, I have to add (as automatically as possible) about 170 photos, the photos are named like that
0001A.jpg
0002A.jpg
0003A.jpg
and I would like them to appear in cell A of each row.

I would like to create a sort of database and I need help because I'm not a professional and I don't have much time available. I am willing to pay some good soul to take this commitment <3
(I would offer my experience and professionalism in return, but I doubt anyone would need a pianist / composer :ucrazy: )

Do you want to embed the photos in a spreadsheet file? It is not the best idea...

Or do you want create hyperlinks to the photos?

Don't create a sort of database. Create a database.
Here is one: viewtopic.php?t=33534&p=153834#p153834 extract the zip, open database document, open form.

Edit: Under MS WIndows you can create a list of file names with:
DIR /B *.jpg > pics.txt
DIR /B *.jpeg >> pics.txt
DIR /B *.png >> pics.txt

The first command writes all file names ending with .jpg to file pics.txt creating a new file. The subsequent commands append file names with other suffices to pics.txt.

A number of extensions exist to create a photo album. One of these might suit you.

Photo album extensions
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.7 on Xubuntu 18.04.3 (mostly 64 bit version) and very infrequently on Win2K/XP

It's only 170 photos so do it manually.

1. Resample each picture to the required size - see Tutorial.
2. Set the column widths and row height to the size required for the pictures
3. Place cursor in Cell A1 and left-click
4. Drag photo 1 to cell A1
5. Place cursor in Cell A2 and left-click
6. Drag photo 2 to cell A2 ...

Repeat for all others.

If you did not do Step 1 you will have to resize each image in the sheet.

If you use Linked images you can change the photos on the folder and the photos in the sheet will update. You can convert linked images to embedded - see Tutorial.

See [Tutorial] Some useful hints on using images for a discussion on how best to handle images in Writer - it applies to Calc too.

LO is likely to cope with images better than AOO.

Showing that a problem has been solved helps others searching so, if your problem is now solved, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.
AOO 4.1.6, Windows 7 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
