there are rectangles with fine lines above each of my photos. how do i remove them? thanks

Can you upload a screenshot (see How to attach a document here)?
What AOO version? You should update it (see How to update your software information signature).

1. Select the grey rectangle. Delete it.
2. right0-click the image > Caption. Add caption.
