Big black bar came up from the bottom

I have been using this program for YEARS. Never had an issue with it.

Last night I was typing up a wedding check list and a big black bar came up from the bottom. Everything disappeared. Then it was back but frozen.

I deleted the program and re installed because after this it wouldn't let me save anything. Today it let me save a partially done list but when I came back to it later and try to log in it opens to the screen and then everything disappears. Did someone install a virus in it?? HELP!!!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Try to reset your OpenOffice user profile.

Does it happen for any new document? Also for the former ones?
All other programs work fine?
If resetting the profile does not work, check your system for any malware that could be there.

It will open fine and allow you to create a document. Once you save it then it will not bring it up again. No matter what I do once the document opens it completely disappears.

Do you save in native format (ODF, that is .odt for text)?
Else, try LibreOffice.
