Printer won't print; Save as box comes up instead

Postby tinamommyof4 » Thu Mar 19, 2020 11:52 pm

Please help! My printer won't print any of my documents or pdfs. When I click print the "save as" box pops up. Nothing prints even when I save.

Welcome to the Forums.
My first suggestion is to ensure that you have the most up-to-date drivers from the manufacturer's website installed.
If you don't know, then install the driver's from the manufacturer's website. Worst case is that you end up replacing up-to-date drivers with the same version.
Microsoft's driver update system only gives you the latest from Microsoft, which might not be the same.

Have you checked that you are in fact selecting the correct printer? Some virtual printers, such as Windows XPS, print to a file rather than a sheet of paper.

Yes, I have checked to be sure that the Print to File box is not checked and the proper printer is selected. This is happening no matter what I try to print - documents, pdfs, screenshot, etc.

If all applications are not printing correctly, you might be better asking your question in a Windows forum, where you may find more specific Windows/printers expertise.

The fact that this is happening with multiple programs, imo, reinforces y earlier suggestion about the printer drivers.

It also might require the printer to be connected and powered on. OpenOffice detects some things only when started up, so if you power-on your printer after starting OpenOffice it might not be detected.

Edit: if this is happening with multiple programs it suggests that the print queues have not permissions to write; that in turn suggests a problem either with printer installation, or an overall tampering with permissions that should not be globally over-ridden.

What is the name of the printer (make and model printed on the actual device)?
What is the name of the print object (printer entry you selected in the print dialog)?
How do you connect to your printer (USB cable, cabled network, wireless, other/combination)?
