You mean the icons displayed for each type of data file, not the icons for the applications of OpenOffice?

Not each type.... each individual file.

You can change icon of the individual DOCUMENT files (Writer document, spreadsheet files or others) in your operating system - manually for each file. On Windows you can create a link to the document file. Then you can modify the icon of the link.

This task is not related to the AOO/LO.

Windows 10 has "image preview" setting that makes the icon a preview of the file. Others (linux) allow superimposing an emblem on the file icon. Win 10 can do that, if this thread is to be believed

Moved to General question section.
Hardly a question specific to AOO.
AOO 4.1.7 on Xubuntu 20.04 and 4.1.5 on Windows 10 (with winPenPack port).

Massillon14,

what operating system are you using?

Please complete your signature in the forum.

On Win10 you can use a link to the document file. And you can modify the icon of the link.

No. File icons are associated with file types, not individual files. When you save a document, you can select a file type, but you can't select an icon. Icons are not stored in document files. They are stored separately and the file manager displays the icon based on the file type configuration.

As I indicated, you can then overlay the file icon with an emblem to distinguish it from other files of the same type. I do this when preparing a presentation - I may have a collection of images from which to select; when I use one in a particular presentation I flag it with an appropriate emblem.
