OpenOffice 4.1.7 HIPAA compliant?

Postby richy_229 » Fri Jan 31, 2020 11:42 pm

You know how MS Office 2007 is no longer HIPAA compliant because it's reached end-of-life with MS and they stopped doing updates for it?
Well would OpenOffice be considered HIPAA compliant by today's legal standards? Please don't give me a half assed lazy answer like the last thread about this in 2014.
It's either your product is, or isn't. A lot of us want to know now since many of us have to do away with the MS suite because of this end of life issue. We'd like to use it for our medical staff.

It is not our product. Support on this forum is provided by volunteers on a pro bono basis, in our own time.

As the HIPAA [Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996] is a USA Act, you can hardly expect residents of other countries to have a valid view on OO's compliance with it - we are all end-users, as you are. You need to consult a legal professional in the USA to get an informed opinion.

MS Office 2007 is 13 years old. ... compliant/
Upload all your data to someone else's computer ("the cloud") and you will be compliant with anything. [that article suggests that being compliant is possible somehow]
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.
