"Dynamic" report not updating when query changed

Postby zalgon26 » Fri Sep 19, 2008 9:48 pm

Hello,

Is it possible to change the query on which a report is based, and have the report update based on that?

To clarify: I would like to use the report to provide narrow date range outputs, and would prefer to simply modify my query each time instead of creating a new report based on the modified query. Is this possible?

The data I have are:
DATE
INFORMATION

And my query presently looks for all entries after a specified date. When I want to prepare an updated report, it would be nice to be able to just modify the query to update the report instead of the inelegant re-generation of a report each time.

Thanks

And my query presently looks for all entries after a specified date.

A parameter query:
Code: Select all   Expand viewCollapse view
SELECT * FROM "TableX" WHERE "Date">:Date_After

Create a report based on such a query and you will be prompted for a date every time you load the report.

I would also like an answer to this question.
Mr Villeroy has been kind enough to propose the following answer
A parameter query:

Code: Select all Expand viewCollapse view
SELECT * FROM "TableX" WHERE "Date">:Date_After
but for us newbies this is insufficient.

What is a parameter query and how does one go about using it?

The code obviously needs to be entered somewhere, some indicator with reference to the actual screen details of the query is mandatory for a clear and unambiguous explanation. Unfortunately we are not all experts.

zalgon26, I think you may have been having the same problem as I have just been having. So far as I can tell, if you edit the Query that a dynamic report (prepared with the Wizard, I haven't tried SRB) is based on, it appears that the report ceases to be dynamic. I've posted a question about this elsewhere on the board ("Getting report to reflect edits in a query") and it might be worth your while to look and see whether that attracts any responses.

Yes, this is indeed a bug in Base. There is a simple workaround which is posted on another thread:
