Create Custom Report

Beginner but since my question is specific to Base report figured I would start here. Using OOo on a MAC - Have a club membership roster in Access on the old PC. Exported Access table / query to Excel. Imported into Calc and then into Base as a table. Access report has a couple of rows for each record - in Access I can move fields around to create a custom report. How can I (if possible at all) do this with a Base report. I ran the wizard and get a weird looking report that is not usable.
Any help appreciated.

Use Sun report builder extension, an some documentation.
AOO 4.0 and LibO 4 on Win 8
