[Issue] Default formatting options?

Postby TheAmigo » Fri Mar 14, 2008 12:30 am

I often have documents with 30 - 50 formulas embedded... and like to set the "Scale all brackets" option. Is there any way to make that the default (preferably for all new documents) for all formulas? Or at least apply it to multiple formulas at a time?

I'm not 100% positive about this, but I'm pretty sure that the deal is this: whatever settings you make in the Math formula editor will be the defaults the next time you use it. However, once a formula is created, the only way to change it's settings is to open it in the editor and change it--that means changing every formula in a document, one at a time.

An interesting idea. I tried in both 2.3.1 and 2.4rc4... both revert to the defaults for each new formula. :(

I'd be in favor of such a feature being implemented as you describe though.

Sorry, I should have given it a go first.

When you change the settings under Format in the formula editor, the dialogs have both an "OK" button and a "Default" button. It seems like it would be obvious, but I missed it myself just now. Anyway, the "Default" button will take the settings and save them as the defaults for the next session.

This wonderful idea was filed back in 2002:

In the meantime, we are clicking each individual formula if we want to change the text font from 12 to 10.

Well, look at that! Clicking the button, it does clearly explain it, but I'd just never clicked that button. I always assumed the button was "reset to defaults" not "set as default", so I never clicked it.

Knowing that will save me a lot of clicking next time :)

Yes, it's (yet another) strange and confusing UI design you can find in OOo.
