Why are my images not being exported into .pdf?

Postby PaulEamonn » Fri Oct 09, 2015 1:24 pm

This is the first time I've used Impress so there is a good chance that I've messed up somewhere!

All I have tried to do is to make a .pdf with a small amount of text with each image. I have used images saved in Jpeg format.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You should give us a sample .odt document and the .pdf generated from it.

Hi Rory - many thanks for your reply, but I've got it sorted now. I was inserting the images in using the Jpeg format when it would appear that Impress much prefers .png.

I've just made a document with an inserted .jpg file and it exported as a .pdf with no problems. All OpenOffice applications prefer .png, but you should be able to insert .jpg files with no problem.

Not all jpeg files are the same. It seems (there have been other reports similar to yours) that some variants may use features that aren't supported in some situations.

If you can make a small sample presentation with one of the problematic images, or just attach the image itself, it might be interesting to follow up on the problem.

Was there not something some time ago about some .jpg files using CMYK instead of RGB colourspaces? And the CMYK printed as black instead of as colour.

Right. I think that's the one that I'm remembering.

Hi guys - many thanks for your comments. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but the *$%^&* car has broken down and I've been trying to sort that.

Attached is one of the Jpeg images I tried to use. If you can't find anything in it, please let me know and I'll make up a bit of a presentation when I can.

The picture was taken on a Motorola E phone. I hope that helps.

This site
http://www.cmyk2rgb.com/
offers online CMYK to RGB conversion for jpg files. I suggest you pass one of your files through it and see if the converted file exports to PDF. If so, we have a workaround and know the cause. I'd suggest putting the original and the converted file into your test file for export to PDF.

The image works fine for me--exports to pdf with no apparent problem.

Could be a difference in OO on Windows vs. OO on Windows. The file uses RGB color ... I'm not sure what's going on.

OOo 3.0.X on Ms Windows XP

OpenOffice.org 3.0.x is very-very old version. Do you use it really? Please upgrade your software and/or update your signature.

The recent versions:
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1
LibreOffice "Still": 4.4.5
LibreOffice "Fresh": 5.0.2
Tibor Kovacs, Hungary; LO6.1.6, 6.2.8 /Win7-10 x64Prof.
PortableApps/winPenPack: LO3.3.0-6.4.1; AOO4.1.6
Please, edit the initial post in the topic: add the word [Solved] at the beginning of the subject line - if your problem has been solved.

Actually, I do have 4.1.1 and it's on Win7 so perhaps I'm not as far behind the times as I appear.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm having problems with my car and that is the priority at the moment. When I get some time I'll try out your suggestions.

Basil Fawlty used beat his car with a stick. It didn't cure the car, but made him feel much better.
