[Solved] Problems converting to OO 4.0 with Mac Os 10.8.4

I receive this message when ever I open an OO document:
"The last time you opened OpenOffice, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?"
I am given options to: "Do not Reopen" and "Reopen"; It doesn't allow the "Do not reopen" and the "Reopen" appears active but nothing happens.
I can open documents but I can not use the tool bar functions and I can not save or save as from the tool bar. I have to force quit open office every time. I have tried opening and resaving all the files that were in use at the time of the upgrade to 4.0, but problems remain.
I have sent both the current 00 4.0 and 3.4 to the "Trash" and then re-download, but same problems return.
I need a solution so I can open/edit and save on a predictable basis from either OO 4.0 or an earlier version.

The first item in that guide is "Try a search first". A search would have found many threads dealing with this issue.
