It is possible that if you set up another User, you can switch to that User when VNCServer and Client is needed, but keep it switched off for your main login.

Do you know if VNC etc monitors the clipboard? As I said before, applications which touch the clipboard can cause Cut/Paste problems in OpenOffice.

I found that closing JumiController solved the problem for me. JumiController is just a program that broadcasts my usb camera feed to a corresponding smartphone app, so it sounds very similar to closing the VNC process that I saw helped someone here. My advice is to start closing programs that might listen to or broadcast on your network one by one.
