[Solved] Error: The application cannot be started

Hello all,
I'm running OpenOffice.org 2.3 on Ubuntu Gutsy, and I receive the error "The application cannot be started" on trying to start writer, calc, base, or impress. True to the message, the application doesn't start. Strangely enough, Evolution works. I honestly have no idea what might be causing or relevant to this - has anyone seen it before?
Thanks,
Simon

Try to rename your OOo user profile (~/.openoffice.org2).
If no improvement, you can try to install the official version:
[Ubuntu] Installing OOo on Debian and Co.
Thanks to add '[Solved]' in your
first post title (
edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

You could try launching an application from the command line and see what, if any, error messages you get.

Hi,
Renaming the user profile worked a charm. Thanks!
For future reference, I received the following error on the command line when I tried running from there:
[Java framework] Error in function createSettingsDocument (elements.cxx).javaldx failed!
Out of interest, does anybody know what caused the error? And should I submit a bug report?
Thanks again.

Changing permissions on the file also worked
sudo chmod 777 ~/.openoffice.org2/
