Unable to create any reports with SUN Report Builder Enabled

Using Ubuntu (have tried under both 8.10 and 9.04), OOo 3.0.

With SUN Report Builder enabled, I cannot generate a report regardless of whether I use the Wizard or Design view. I can edit existing reports, but when I attempt to create a new one under either command nothing happens.

What version of SRB you use?

With ubuntu I recommend to install the report builder this way:
"sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-report-builder"
not that way:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.o ... portdesign

A lot of dependant packages are not installed by default in Ubuntu.

Does this solve your problem?

Best regards
Kai

Actually, every time I create a report with the Sun Report builder now, I get an error and lose any work that I did because OOo needs to shut down. I did still have the other version of SRB installed, so I removed that, and if it repeats again, I will uninstall and reinstall SRB to see if that works.

If it still doesn't work, you can try the official (Sun) version: [Ubuntu] Installing OOo on Debian and Co. Note that 3.1 is now available.

Okay, so I did all that stuff I mentioned, and there's still a problem. Here's what happens...

I open the database, create a report in design view, make all the modifications, saving as I go. Then when I'm done I close the SRB window, which IMMEDIATELY gives me an "OpenOffice.Org BASE has encountered an error and needs to shut down. Your documents will be recovered."

Then when I recover the database and re-open it, either the report I created doesn't show up, or it's in the report list, BUT when I open it, it's a blank report.

Please advise.

It is known bug in linux versions of OOo 3.0.x (I had same problem on opensuse), which based on go-oo sources, use OOo from OOo site, or launchpad version of Ubuntu OOo, where this bug solved.

So I tried installing the version from the website (Linux DEB 64, version 3.0.1) using the tar.gz and tutorial, however that caused WAY more problems than it solved...most notably not being able to use the JDBC driver to connect to the database, and crashing every time I tried to open the Extension Manager.

I've got it back to the normal Ubuntu install of OOo, but what do you mean by the "launchpad" version?

It is a source for OOo development versions, for 8.10 use:

Code: Select all

http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu/ interpid main
For other versions change interpid to your version.
Today install OOo 3.1.
Edit: Base part not working , can not create new odb file, crash  , old odb files I can not edit, gives SDBC error with own built in HSQLDB files.
 Edit: Second: launchpad

Your edit has me confused...should I try it or is that version not working?

Up to you but it seems that it doesn't work.

BTW, the right string is (I guess): http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu/ intrepid main

When you have installed the Sun version, had you transferred your personal data during the welcome process? It's a frequent cause of problems.
