So here is the problem:
- When you paste a selection containing pictures from your web browser, Writer downloads the pics and it can take some time. It can even fail depending on the address of the pics.
- As the pics are linked (to their web location), each time the document is opened, OOo has to retrieve again the files.
- The pics are not embedded in the document, they can't be seen by someone offline.
- Embed the pictures in the document by default (when pasting from an external source like the web browser).
- If someone actually wants to link the pics, he still can do that by accessing the Picture tab of the pic properties and paste the link in the appropriate field (and that should remove the embedded file).
Note that if you change your mind afterwards, you can also change your vote.
BTW, it could fix the following bug: Issue 77322 - Copy & Paste from website crashes OOo Writer 2.2.
