Mac 10.14.6 Mojave :
font Bauhaus is installed in the system, giving 5 font weights (light. medium, demi, medium and heavy)
When selecting Bauhaus (both in calc and writer) I only see the 'generic' Bauhaus, probably the light weight. I can set this to BOLD using the button. No other weights are selectable.
When exporting this to PDF, the text disappears.
any takers ?

Re: Cannot use Bauhaus font
Is it a free font, or licensed commercial font? There are some restrictions for embedding of the non free fonts into the native documents, and into the PDF-s.When exporting this to PDF, the text disappears.

it is an Adobe type 1 font, I got this more than 20 years ago.
Using BauHaus on other programs (TextEdit) generates a correct PDF file
I think OpenOffice behaves n a strange way ...
Unfortunately, I cannot move to LibreOffice and/or update

Apple support for MacOS 10.14 ended 2021-10-25 and click Show more unmaintained releases
Apple does not supply that font on MacOS 10.14. Your 20-year-old foreign font may not be fully compatible with OpenOffice on MacOS 10.14. From memory, OpenOffice uses deprecated interfaces to fonts on MacOS. TextEdit and Pages would use the current inferfaces. Maybe LibreOffice uses updated font interfaces as well. If you are just starting on this project and must have that particular font, consider using Pages or LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice. The former probably already installed on your Mac. There are open issues dealing with fonts on MacOS.
Issue 124496 - Not all font variants available on Macs
Perhaps your font is in a suitcase, which current versions of OpenOffice or MacOS may not like. Using a web search you could try to find a more recent version of Bauhaus or of a font which is similar to it.

You can install both OpenOffice and LibreOffice on your Mac. Mac FAQ Q33/A33 describes how to set the default application for ODF documents. You can force documents to open with one or the other:
OpenOffice → File → Open
LibreOffice → File → Open
If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ☐ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Re: Cannot use Bauhaus font
If this is an Adobe Type 1 font, I suggest looking for a ttf format version, or similar format of a close equivalent, and installing that.

Adobe deprecated type1, so problems are to be expected:

As already mentioned by RoryOF: Try to replace the font.
