Post by declan780 »

I started a project which I'm doing for college which was taking screen shots of Cubase and annotating them etc.

I saved the file as an XML then when I reopened it all the images were gone?!

What do I do to get the back?

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Why don't you save it first in .odt, the usual format for text documents?

Because all the computers we use in college use microsoft word 2007, will .odt work on MSW2007?

Ah, that's another story. You mean that you save in OOXML? .docx?
The MS file formats have not been designed to be compatible with anything else than MS Office. Welcome to the vendor lock-in policy. That's why it's important now to use true standards like ODF.

MS Office supports half heartedly ODF (.odt). You can try but better use MS Office if you've to use at school.

Like Hagar said, .odt can be implenmented with .docx, as well as .xml via odtxml. How long did you spend on the document, and is there a way your can retrieve your images back? If the document is very importanet, perhaps you could start on the docment and save it in .odt (and .docx if you wish, just make sure to have .odt as well), make a back-up copy. Then try XML again. If there is no absolute way you can retrieve your images, then perhaps you could post your document here and see if anyone may be able you.

But this is really my suggestion (for the most part) is to help prevent something like this from happening. Unless you have a back-up copy of your document, there is not much to be done. :(
