Error 1714

Post by thewolf »

Good Morning
Some months ago I was cleaning up my laptop and I need the space so I wiped OO.
Now I find that I am needed it back so I tried to install the latest version and I am getting the
error 1714 older version cannot be removed.

I have tried several "cleaners" did not fix it.
I looked thru the req file and I can't find a anything.

Any ideas?
IBM laptop running WinXP
Thanks
Russ

When I Google that error the only references are to Adobe Acrobat. Try cleaning up Acrobat. I also found this old post http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic ... hlight=msi .

Thank for the info but none apply to me.
I have no idea what the old version was its long gone.
There is no entry in the add/remove program.
The error is not asking for any file.
I am at a loss

I am glad I am not the only one that has suffered with this problem misery love company!
But I am very sad the there has not been a fix for this its been going on for a very long time.

Have you tried deleting the old user directory as suggested here http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic ... highlight= . Its found at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Openoffice.org2 on my machine.

There must be something left in the registry that is causing the problem.

I have searched the registry several times and can't find anything that looks like it belongs to OO
This is driving me nuts.
This laptop is the only one in the house that has a serial port
and I need it for the new lazer printer, so much for modern puters.

Thanks you for all of your help!

Doesn't the error message refer to a missing msi file containing the old version number?

I found the installer reference in the registry under
HKLM\Software\Installer\Products\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\
C8A39C45A51A9344EB46322402D2F40F
You may still have this key or a similar one and may have to delete it. Backup your registry first.

I don't have this registry key in any form
So I searched for Classes\Installer\
Found nothing.

Would like to add a rousing "me, too" to the chorus.

Had OO 2.2, checked for update, went to page it designated.
At first tried to install with uninstalling the prior - Error 1741
Tried uninstalling OO 2.2 (which still seems to work) - folder not found
Ran the microsoft registry cleanup utility, no difference on any front.

I love how it can export to PDF, I make books from multi part text files, then convert them to PDF, then she can use the Adobe Reader for reading.
She is legallly blind and can make the words viewable this way.

That Gutenberg Project is something else, too.

Got the 7/2006 compilation DVD and the March 2007 Sci-Fi compilation CD from them as well.

A whole library on one DVD, God Bless the Internet, and Open Office, too.

I had a problem like yours and I solved it by clicking on "Start" and "run" entering regedit. In the registor editor I clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and scrolled down to "Installer" (it is down there....way down.) Click on the + next to "Installer" and scroll down to "UpgradeCodes". Right click on UpgradeCodes and select "export" to save the subkey (and all of it's subkeys) to a convenient place such as the desktop. Check to make sure you have a copy of the file with whatever name you gave it (UpgradeCodes is a good choice) and go back to the register editor, right click on UpgradeCodes again, then click "delete". You should be able to install OpenOffice now.

Likely what has happened is that the uninstaller did not remove the entry in UpgradeCodes and the new installation was not able to proceed. By removing all upgrade codes on all programs, you clear the way for installation to proceed. When you finish you can click on the saved "UpgradeCodes" file and restore it to the registry if you wish. If you choose not to, other upgrades or re-installations will simply over-write the existing files. If you restore UpgradeCodes, you will likely get the same error code if you try to re-install OpenOffice. There is a technique to locate the offending subkey entry in UpgradeCode that is causing the trouble; however, it is difficult to explain it without attaching examples. This would likely be too long for this entry.

Let us all know if this worked for you.

After much searching, this man's solution (deleting all upgrade keys) is the one that worked. I am very grateful. Thank you.
