How to reproduce this type of chart

Post by Intrinsic »

Hi all,

Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction as I've had no luck so far with trying to reproduce this type of chart. I have tried searching but without luck. I'm pretty sure i did it many moons ago with Excel, but can't for the life of me work out how to do it in OO.

Here is an example of the type of chart i am trying to reproduce:

Does this type of chart have a name?

I can attach an example data source if needed, but here is a quick example of the data:

Code: Select all

Size	Segments	Catagories
20250	6 7
20266	6 8
20267	8 7
20271	7 7
20278	8 8
20280	5 7
20285	7 8
20290	6 6
20290	9 7
20292	5 8
20297	6 9
20299	8 6
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer, and if you need any more info please ask.

Regards,
Intrinsic

Sorry, but I can't make heads or tails of that chart. Is something missing, or is the color somehow supposed to show the size?

Oh, wait, I see: you've only included a small sample of the data, so I guess the complete data set will cover that whole x-y range, and the color at each point represents the size.

If that is what you're after, I'm afraid you're out of luck--OOo can't do any kind of 3-d (x, y, z) plot.

PS: Here's the request for this type of chart (at least I think this covers it): Issue 29012: surface chart - 3d plot - contour plot

I still don't understand what the cart is but if a contour plot is needed R or gnuplot might be decent alternatives. I didn't think that Excel provided 3-d plots either. Something new in the last few years?
