[Solved] Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
[Solved] Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
Hi,
I'm using OOo 3.0 Beta on a MacBook.
I followed some instructions for creating a template and then making it the default. The problem is that when I quit OOo and reopen it at a later time, the old "default" is still used for new Writer documents (Times New Roman, size 12, etc.). My template includes a custom outline style and Book Antiqua as the font. When I go into "File->Templates->Organize", right click my template, then choose "Set as default template", and then open up a new Writer document, my new and custom template is used for any subsequent document.
When I quit and open OOo again to whip up an outline... back to default. How can I get OOo to "really" set this as the default, not just for the current "session" as it seems to be doing?
Thanks,
John

Re: Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
Strange, it works fine with my xubuntu box and Beta 2.
You can try to rename your OOo user profile (see the Tools>Options>OOo>Paths dialog) to see if there is any difference with a new profile.

Left-click? At least that's the way in XPjwhendy wrote:Hi,

Having the very same problem with RC1 and RC2 on OS X. This was NOT a problem with the last beta. What went wrong, I wonder? Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
Works for me using rc2 on Linux.
I modified the "Default" style to use a different font, then File > Templates > Save as "My Templates" / "Test 3rc2", closed the file, then File > Templates > Organize: "My Templates" / "Test 3rc2" Command > Set as default.
File > New > Text Document now starts off with my selected font.

Re: Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
I can confirm this is NOT working properly in 3.0 RC2 on Mac OS X Leopard.
Same exact problem as the original poster.
That makes 3 of us; how do we pass this on to the team to fix it?

I don't see anything about this in the issue tracker. Please report the problem ASAP so it doesn't get shipped with OOo3.
Please leave a link here to your report.
If you need help reporting it, just ask.

Re: [Issue] Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
Unfortunately it's still "unconfirmed." I hope somebody at least looks at it before 3.0 is sent out the door.

Well... RC4 is out and the problem persists. Discouraging.

3.0.0 is out now, and nobody paid any attention to the issue. Still the same as before. Lame!

Re: [Issue] Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
Lame, indeed. Guess it's back to NeoOffice for the time being. It would be nice to be able to take advantage of OOo 3's other improvements/additions, but the template problem is a deal-breaker for me.

If you want to speed up that issue, you have to vote (up to 2 votes per issue). Note that the issue will be automatically confirmed when a votes threshold (rather low) is reached IIRC.Mojo wrote:Lame, indeed.

It doesn't necessarily mean no attention was paid, it probably means they didn't have time to fix it, and their priorities were different to our expectations.falconer wrote:3.0.0 is out now, and nobody paid any attention to the issue. Still the same as before. Lame!

Re: [Issue] Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
Hi,
for me it seems that the issue is still open. I stumbled over this right now in OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 but did never try with an earlier version.
Is this also still an issue for the other Mac users here?
Regards,
Florian

Re: [Issue] Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
The issue linked above was found to be a duplicate of this issue: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=95088
Which is listed as fixed in OOo 3.0.1.
If you're still seeing the problem, maybe you could add a comment there describing what OOo version and OS you're using, and what you're seeing that makes you say the problem is not fixed.
You'll have to register there to add a comment; the registrations are all separate.

Re: [Solved] Retain default template setting upon quitting OOo
Thank you for replying.
95088 and 94390 actually describe the same problem that I am seeing in my installation. So I conclude that the issue is not fixed.
Thanks for your hint at adding a comment to the QA issue tracker, I'll do that soon.

I also have the problem in the German (AT) version - no answers to my problems in the German Fora... is there any hope for an update (since the problem is virulent for more than a year as I see?? it is annoying...

Please change the status of this issue because it is not solved.
I run OOo 3.2.1 on Mac OSX 10.6.5 and it is not retaining the new default template I have set.
