Hello!
If I create a file, saves it as .doc, closes Ooo, and the reopen the document, the document opens write protected. I have tried the suggestion from http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... ted#p23744. However, unchecking "Write protected" with subsequent save does not solve the issue.
When opening in Ooo 2.3 it opens correctly, allowing editing.
Do we see a bug here?
Any suggestions?
Regards
globus68

Can you upload a sample file here?
Any Table of Content at beginning of the file?

Re: .doc files open write protected in Ooo 2.4
The problem comes from the TOC which is write protected. There is a bug during export import in .doc. The workaround is to edit the TOC properties and in the Index/Table tab, uncheck the Protected against manual changes option. Edit: + remove the protection on all the sections (see below).
It has been reported (even if they don't talk about the TOC): Issue 90306 - Word DOC set to Read Only and it seems to be fixed for 3.0.
I confirm I can reproduce the bug on my W2k system with OOo 2.4.1.
Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

I have tried your solution with deactivating "Protected against manual changes" in ToC properties.
Sorry to say: I still get the same "Write protected" message.
Ideas?

Works fine for me but have you also removed the protection on the remaining sections? I've forgotten to add that it was needed also!

Thank you!
You solved it. Detailed instructions:
1. Do NOT save as .doc until the next items have been accomplished
2. Create ToC
3. Right click in ToC - Edit Index/Table
4. In Index/Table tab: deactivate "Protect against manual changes"
5. OK
6. F5
7. Sections: Right click each section - Edit...
8. Deactivate "Protected" for each section
9. OK
10. Close "F5"-box
11. Save as .doc file

For information (to those who will find this thread), no need to right click each section. Once you're editing one, you've access to all the sections in the left area of the dialog:globus68 wrote:6. F5
