OOo 3.4.0 Spellcheck believes every word misspelled (2012)

Post by GreenBanana »

In Open Office Writer 3.4.0, the spell check marks every single word as misspelled. The language is set to US English. The 2006 and 2008 threads on this subject are both out of date and subject to invalidity on this topic for the following reasons that their "SOLVED" status does not apply to:
- A repair install did not fix the problem.
- An uninstall and reinstall did not fix the problem.
- Attempting to install the US English dictionary extension failed. The window for this oxt spawns, framing the desktop behind it, and freezes.
- The website tutorials do not cover this issue as of the time of this writing.
This issue seems to have began at least yesterday, but not a week ago.
Running Windows XP Home SP3, etc., etc.

Did you use this tutorial http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 74&t=16512? Also try resetting the user profile http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 74&t=12426. Also look through this query Spell Check in V3.4.

Yes followed the tutorial and reset your profile?

Oh no one will look at issues in your signature. Make them separate threads so we can help.

A repair and/or an uninstall using Control Panel and reinstall do not overwrite or reinitialise an existing User Profile. A User Profile should be deleted or renamed in a separate action, unless the uninstall is done using a utility such as Revo Uninstaller
Edit: See Bill's comment later in thread.

I have to rename or remove the old user profile even when using Revo Uninstaller. Revo Uninstaller removes the program files folder, but doesn't touch the user profile folder.
