[Solved] Text quality in PDF

Post by TalosGR »

Hello. I've searched the web but I didn' t find something directly related to my question.

When I print a document from Writer the fonts look clear and sharp. When I convert to PDF and print, the fonts look a liiiiitle fuzzy.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't noticed it myself, but anything is possible.

How are you exporting to pdf?

Are you using any unusual fonts?

Is this a simple text document, or does it include graphics?

I' ve tried with the usual Open Office converter and with doPDF. Same result.

How do the fonts look on-screen? I have found no obvious difference in font rendering on my printers between printed .odt and printed .pdf files.

Good.

Well the difference I' ve noticed is not that obvious. I' ve only noticed it after comparing an odt with a pdf.

What type of printer do you use? When you print from .pdf, which application is used? Are there anti-aliasing settings in that application?

A quick Google shows this problem with other applications and it seems related to print settings; I'm off the air now to do Friday things so can't follow up immediately; I suggest you Google for "printing pdf fuzzy" and see if that leads you to a solution.

OK I think I found a solution.
  • Open PDF
  • File
  • Print
  • Advanced
  • Uncheck "Print as image"
That' s it. Text comes out OK.
