Word Count Stop Work!
Hi, everybody!
I am new here but not new to OpenOffice.org. I have been using it for two years.
Today I met a problem under the latest Openoffice.org 3.0 Beta(Build Code:9296). The word count suddenly work totally wrong, although it worked well yesterday. It treat the number of paragraph as the number of words.I found that through the 'File'-'Properties'-'Statistics'. The number of words and the number of the paragraph change simultaneously. It could get the correct number of characters but not the number of words.
I thought there might be something wrong with this file but unfortunately it happens to all the documents opened with OpenOffice.org even the file is not ODF.
I also tried open Writer under terminal but no error output when I was conducting word count.
Deleting the user profile folder doesn't make it better.
All of the documents were written in English and the font has been set to Times New Romans. I am sure I tick the language as English through 'Tools'-'Language'.
The attachments are the screenshot of the Word Count taken in Writer and KWord for the same document.
I have created a issue about it.If you have the same problem as I described here, please click thishttp://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88484 link to vote!
The bug was considered to be solved by QA, but the solution hasn't been emerged to the Openoffice.org 3.0 Beta(Build Code:9296). Please check the latest edition.
Thank you very much!

Re: Word Count Stop Work!
According to the number of threads about that, it seems that the feature is quite broken:
- Word count
- Word count still wrong
You should report that bug with a test file and screenshots, see here: [Tutorial] Reporting bugs.

Re: Word Count Stop Work!
I don't know if this is the same thing, though, Hagar.... While it's possible those issues are still around in the new version, the problem in this case was that it had been working one day and stopped working the next, the behavior in question is different, and it's from a 3.0 beta.
lovenemesis, I would definitely file a bug report as Hagar suggests. I don't have any idea what could be affecting word counts. Usually when something suddenly stops working correctly, it has to do with a corrupted configuration setting and it goes away when the user renames their 'user' profile folder and restarts OOo. But I'd be surprised if word count were affected by something in the user profile. (I suppose it's worth a try anyway... you won't lose your old profile folder if you just rename it, and you can restore it if that didn't fix the problem.)

How can you add an attachment to what? A document? A post in this forum? A bug report in the Issue Tracker?lovenemesis wrote:How can I add attachment?

For the bug report.
Probably a screenshot of Word Count and the document I tested will be useful for the maintainer, I think.

Re: Word Count Stop Work!
Deleting my user profile folder is the first thing I tried but it did not make it better.
And the problem for me in 3.0 Beat is different from that in 2.4. It treats the number of paragraph as the number of word.

After you've created the bug report, there is a link to create an attachment, somewhere in the top of page IIRC.

Thank you, I succeed to create a bug report.
I hope it would help the maintainer to fix it.
