[Issue] Cross references don't show in Index of table/figure

Post by wild_oscar »

Is there a way for the index of figures/tables to display cross-references?

I have a caption like:
Figure 1: bla bla (from [1])

But in the index of figures the "1" is missing and I get:

Figure 1: bla bla (from [])

I am not sure what you are asking but this is what I do to cross-references.

Adding a Caption to a Figure or Table

1.Right Click on the figure or table and select “Caption” from the menu. This will display a dialogue box titled “Caption”

2.Fill in the dialogue box with the appropriate information:
Caption: Name of the figure or table.
Category: “Figure” or “Table” as appropriate, or something to that extent (ie. Fig.)
Numbering: The type of numbering you would like. (ie Arabic 1 2 3)
Separator: The character you would like to separate the Category/Number and the Caption (ie. “:” or “--” etc.)
Note 1: A preview of the completed category, number, separator and caption will be displayed at the bottom of the dialogue box.
Note 2: The position field is set to “below” for figures and can not be change, current I don't why this is, or how to change it. For table the position field can be set to “below” or “above”.

3.Click the OK button in the dialogue box, it will close and the category, number, separator and caption will appearer below the figure or in the position specified for a table.

Cross-Referencing a Figure or Table Caption

1.Place the curers in text at the desired location of the cross-reference.

2.From the top pull down menu select Insert => Cross-reference... and a dialogue box titled “Fields” will open, the References tab will be selected.

3.Select the appropriate information:
Type: The type of item your are cross-referencing; “Figure” or “Table”.
Selection: The figure or table you would like to cross-reference. (ie. Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.)
Format: The information to be inserted in the text. (ie. If you would like the text“Figure 1” to be inserted select “Category and Number”, if you would like the page that Figure 1 is on select “Page”, etc. )

4.Click the “Insert” button and the cross references in the selected format will be placed in the text. The cross references text will be highlighted in grey indicating that it is a cross-reference.

5.If no more cross-references are to be inserted close the “Fields” dialogue box in you favourite manner (I use the close button).

I am referring to a caption that has, on its text, a cross-reference to something else (a footnote or endnote, for example).

If the caption has a cross-reference like that, the cross-reference won't be displayed on the Index of Figures.

I tried this, and it worked.

I inserted the picture, right-clicked on it and gave it a caption.

I typed some other text and then set the cross-reference in that new text.

Went back to the caption and added the cross-reference to it.

Saved as .odt.

Is this what you meant? It seems to work for me OOo 2.4 and XP Pro SP2 (I'm at work, so I'm not using my XP Home PC as indicated in my signature).
