Can't get graphics or Publisher files.
I bought a new computer without realizing the Microsoft Office was a trial program and it expired yesterday. After a few panic attacks, I was told to install OO and so far it works fine with Word docs. However, I have hundreds of graphics and can't get into them. They show on the page but I'm locked out of copying or inserting them. I need the graphics for my business.
Also, I can't open my Publisher documents and all of my brochures and flyers are locked up.
Finally, does OO have a program similar to MS Publisher?
Many thanks for your help.

In which format exactly?Cactus Gal wrote: However, I have hundreds of graphics and can't get into them.
OpenOffice.org doesn't open Publisher documents. It probably never will. Only a few programs even try to.Also, I can't open my Publisher documents and all of my brochures and flyers are locked up.
Yes. For certain tasks, OpenOffice.org Draw is great. However, for other tasks, it is not as good. You should also consider GIMP, Inkscape, and Scribus. Finally, does OO have a program similar to MS Publisher?

My graphics are either jpg or gifs.
That's bad news about Publisher. I'll check into some of those in the link. Is there any similar program in OO?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Can't get graphics or Publisher files.
I found how to insert graphics from my files and also found other sites with clip art that I can use. That just leaves the Publisher problem. Can I make brochures with OO?
Re: Can't get graphics or Publisher files.
Yes. Use OpenOffice.org Draw. There are various templates on the Internet including at this link below, but you may be best off starting from scratch.Cactus Gal wrote:Can I make brochures with OO?

Re: Can't get graphics or Publisher files.
Thank you for the information. It looks rather complicated vs Publisher but I'll get used to it. I'm surprised how much can be done with OO.
Re: Can't get graphics or Publisher files.
If you have a friend with Publisher, then you can open the files in Publisher and export to some format like Word. However, the formatting may be lost in the translation.

Re: Can't get graphics or Publisher files.
I tried exporting a brochure to Word but it was totally messed up. I think I can still use my Publisher 97. I did find that my new scanner has a photo program that opens all my graphics and then I can copy to either Word or Publisher documents. This was a huge surprise and help.
Does OO have tutorials? I can't find any.
Thanks for your response.

OpenOffice.org can directly import bitmap graphics such as JPG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, BMP, etc.Cactus Gal wrote:I think I can still use my Publisher 97.
