Hello all,
I use to search the web for my problems, but this was the first time I couldn't find a solution by searching. So I just became a member of the forum.
I am trying to use outline numbering for the sections of a report I'm writing, but instead of using dots as separators, I need hyphens, like this:
1
1-1
1-2
2
2-1
2-1-1
2-1-2
OOo doesn't seem to provide options other than using dots like this (when selecting "Numeric will all sublevels" in the Outline Tab in the Bullets/Numbering Dialog):
1
1.1
1.2
2
2.1
2.1.1
2.1.2
I explored many possibilities in OOo's Numbering UI, and searched the Web using different keywords, reading several articles and forum posts, but I ended up
Any help will be appreciated.

Re: MultiLevel Numbering with hyphens instead of dot separat
In the bullets and numbering toolbar left lick on the bullets and numbering icon (last one on right) , select options delete the dot and replace it with -tehran wrote:Hello all,

Hi jrkrideau,
Can you upload a sample file? I can't find how you can do that...

Re: MultiLevel Numbering with hyphens instead of dot separat
While the character "after" the number can be changed, I don't think its possible to change the characters "between" the numbers. This is possible with Word 2000, but when a document with dashes between the numbers is created with Word 2000, the dashes change to dots when opened with Writer.
Re: MultiLevel Numbering with hyphens instead of dot separat
I thought it should be possible to set no character "before" or "after" level 1, and set a dash as the "before" character for other levels, but that doesn't work either. When the number is displayed, the dash gets moved before the first level, and the dashes before other levels change to dots. I think it's a bug, but the developers call it an enhancement:
Specify separator characters BETWEEN numbers in outline numbering (Issue 21387)

Re: [Issue] Numbering with hyphens instead of dot separators
OK, so it turns out that I've bumped into a bug. For now, I have to do it by hand.
Thanks to all for the effort and the replies.
