[Solved] How to open Microsoft Works Documents

Post by lbuchana »

Hi,
I have Microsoft Works (not Word). How do I open files with the extension .wps. I've looked at the FAQ's but have not found an answer to that extension.
Thanks.

OOo won't open .wps. It's another proprietary lock-in file format.

Go-oo opens them, apparently, or you can use Zamzar (free on line conversion site, convert them to .doc or .odt) or Works if you still have it (open them and save as .doc).

Go-oo
Zamzar

Does GoOo co-exist with or replace OO? Any plans to get support for WPS in mainstream OO?

Yes they can coexist, but will use the same profile unless one edits bootstrap.ini to change a profile location.

If it isn't there by now, I doubt it. All the efforts in that area will be taken up with read/write functionality for the the modern and current Microsoft formats.

hello,
I'd liked to open a 27.0 MB document (Musicnotes, complete works of the composer F.Sor). The blue MSW icon jumpet right up at the dog on my Mac os x 10.5.8. which I never bought, so I tried to open it with OO 3.1.0. and it froze.
I hope I did not repeat a problem already somebody discussed here before. I am new so please forgive me if that is the case. But for everybody desperate it is equally importent to find a solution. Is this file too big?
