Lose most of .docx file after edit

Post by oadams »

I was sent a .docx file that is about 60 pages in length. When I edit it, and save it, it is truncated to about 6 pages, and only the first couple of those pages have text one them.

I have edited .doc files in the past with no problem.

How should I investigate this problem further?

OOo can read but not save in .docx format. I believe the 3.3 version due out soon has some limited support for this.

For .docx, see MS Office 2007 OOXML file format (docx, xslx, pptx, ppsx).

The Ubuntu version (based on go-oo) can save in .docx but as you'll see in the topics linked above, .docx should be avoided as much as possible. And its implementation may be not complete yet. .docx has been designed to be not compatible with anything else than MS Office!

Thanks, I gave that a go and it preserves the original document formatting pretty well. However I need to return the file with some modifications, and it needs to be in the original .docx format.

So there's no real solution? I really don't want to have to use MS office.

There is no technical reason for docx. MS Office still fully supports doc.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.
