[Solved] Save requested even if no change (.xls .ppt) in 2.4

Post by LPA »

Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? 2.4
What Operating System (version) are you using? Windows XP
What is your question or comment?
I just installed the new 2.4. Whenever I now open a document, even if I do not make any changes to it at all, it asks me whether or not to save (the save icon (disk) is automatically 'grayed' the minute you open the document). This was not the case in previous versions and is terrible. How can I turn this off, or is it a bug?
many thanks
Richard
Edit: Hagar: changed the title (was 'changes in 2.4').
7th July: tagged the thread as solved since fixed in 2.4.1.

No such problems here. Take a look at Tools, Options, Load/Save and see what you can find there, e.g. what is the default for text documents? There is an option there to Warn when saving if the default format is not ODF.

Sorry - with text documents this works fine. With spreadsheets - excel/calc, it doesn't

Any auto-start macros? Tools>Customize... Tab:Events

At the bottom of the events tab is a pull-down labelled "Save in". Check all of those choices for an assigned action.

Hmmm... macros are the only thing I can think of that might cause that. I can't think of anything else to suggest.

It would be worth you keeping an eye on the thread here:

you're not the only one, it seems.

Edit: and another... http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... f=9&t=3937 - is yours just with XLS?

How about moving you profile? This fixes all kinds of strange problems if there had been an old version before.
In C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\ there should be a hidden(?) folder "OpenOffice.org2". Close the office (including quick-starter in sys-tray) and move or rename that folder. Restart the office.
If this is your first time install of OOo then this procedure is pointless, I'm afraid.

I too see this same issue with Calc but not Writer. Every spreadsheet I open has the Save Icon active. Closing the file with no changes prompts me to Save, Discard or Cancel. All of these are .xls files. I don't see this with a .ods file.

I see the same behavior on Xubuntu 7.10. The resulting saved file is also much larger than the original file. A 13.5kB XLS file created with Excel 97 in Windows Me becomes 111kB after saving with OOo 2.4.0 in Xubuntu 7.10 without any changes being made to the file.

Another one here: Impress 2.4.0 allways ask to save.

Anyone to report it? LPA? [Tutorial] Reporting bugs. Seems to impact .xls, .ppt but not .doc.

I tag the thread as Issue.

I can confirm that the problem exists in calc and impress, but not in text.
sorry, but I've never done the bug report process, so please someone do that instead of me.

Hi,
I have simply created a simple spreadsheet with OpenOffice 2.4.0 RC6 and stored it as Excel 97.
Loading this document shows the save icon
Does not happen with format Excel 95.

Also happens with a presentation saved as PowerPoint 97.

I created Issue 87555 for this.
