[Solved] Password Protection: no option in OS Save dialog

Post by Banjo »

I just upgraded my Open Office from 2.4 to 3. With the prior software I could do a "Save As" and check the "password" box to password protect the file. With version 3, the window that opens when I do a "Save As" does not have a "password" box. I tried using "Help" but it just tells me to check the password box. Please help.

Works OK for me too.
  • Do you save in the native ODF format (file type odt for text, ods for spreadsheets, etc.)?
  • Do you get this on both Windows and Linux?
  • Is it the same for all file types (wordprocessing, spreadsheets, drawings, etc.)?
  • Is your upgrade the final "official" (Openoffice.org) version, a third party build, or a beta/RC install?
Your problem may be connected to user restrictions on your computer, prohibiting the modification of the common dialogs for your OS. (I've never seen it happen, so this is a "shot in the dark".) Try using Open Office dialogs instead of common system dialogs: Tools - Options, expand branch OpenOffice.org - General and tick Use OpenOffice.org dialogs.

Thank you. Problem solved. I clicked on the "Use OpenOffice.org Dialogs" as Keme suggested and I no longer have the problem.

Again, thanks for all replies.

Thanks for the tip. I recently switched to Vista 64-bit and did not see the Save with Password option either until ...

Tools > Options > General > Use OpenOffice.org dialogs

Should be fine in 3.0.1: [Solved] Password protect files (link to the bug report).
