Here is an press release I just noticed on Oracle's claims of continued support for OOo. It doesn't really say anything surprising, but at least they have bothered to claim they care.

Re: Oracle support of OOo
Having been released 2010-10-13 this is later than anything referred to in the various (and seemingly interminable) LibO discussions.

Re: Oracle support of OOo
The code from the latest OO.o beta DEV300m_10 was merged into the LibreOffice version control system this morning.
Currently the LibreOffice development team is focused on cleaning up the code from the old OO.o code line - removing dead code, and addressing a number 'paper cut' type of coding errors found in the legacy line.

Re: Oracle support of OOo
...100 million users....eh...it seems that Microsoft calls that 'a few' .... according to this FUD article :With more than 100 million users, OpenOffice.org is the most advanced, feature-rich open source productivity suite, and continued contributions through http://www.openoffice.org will only improve this already popular software.
While this may seem like a valid counter-argument I urge you to consider that with an install base of over 750 million users it’s not difficult to find a few who want to investigate alternative solutions.
Edit :
Also more details and lots of comments from users about OOo at ArsTechnica .
Glyn Moody wrote:Just as it did in 1999 for GNU/Linux, Apache and Samba, the company has now clearly announced that OpenOffice.org is a serious rival to Microsoft Office, and should be seriously considered by anyone using the latter.
Thanks Microsoft.
