MySQL Connector not connecting

Postby Raatcharch » Wed Sep 30, 2009 4:35 am

I have just installed Ubuntu 9.04 and OpenOffice version 3.1 in order to be able to use OpenOffice's new native native connection extension between the OpenOffice suite and MySQL.

When I try to create a new database through OpenOffice Base, everything works up until step 5, when I am prompted to Set Up User Authentication. No matter what username I enter, I am unable to connect. I get an error message saying:

"Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)"

I realize this is more than likely a problem with my configuration settings rather than OpenOffice, but I am a newbie, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

You configured mysql? It seems to me mysql not running, for initial steps read mysql documents.

In the database connection wizard, try entering /opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.sock in the socket field. I had the same problem and that fixed it for me.

I'm not a pro, i don't even know what a socket is , but i fixed my problem like this
I just got the same problem.
Database name : Test
Server : localhost
socket : (didn't put it anything)

result = "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)"

Try again :
Database name : Test
Server : 127.0.0.1
Socket : (nothing)

Result = no problem!!

Also tried this one:
In the database connection wizard, try entering /opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.sock in the socket field. I had the same problem and that fixed it for me.

but this one didn't work for me.
