Open PDF's ?

Post by onidarbe »

Can I read (and edit) PDF's in any OpenOffice application without having any Adobe software installed?
So can OO decode PDF's?

Thanks

Yes it can - for small edits : Sun PDF Import Extension. This is designed mainly for edits of the scale of correcting a typo.

Gurkha omitted to point out that .pdfs are intended to be un-editable; to edit them other than making small cosmetic changes (as he indicated possible in OOo) needs specialised software. To read and print .pdf files with any facility one needs a dedicated program of which Adobe Reader is the best known, but there are others, each with their own adherents. The fact that OOo generates quite satisfactory .pdf files does not imply that it can read them; that with the right extension installed it can make small edits is a tribute to its versatility.
