[Solved] Problem with restore windows

Post by jbucci1 »

I am having a problem that every time I open up Open Office, that I get an error window telling me that open office has shut suddenly and would like to restore the windows or I have the choice to not restore the windows. Neither buttons work and have been stopping me from opening my documents, and power points. How can I fix this?

Are you using Mac OS X version 10.7 (Lion)? You should state which version of OS X you are using,
If so, see this thread: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 17&t=43095 , especially the posts towards the end of the thread.

If not, reset your user profile. For instructions see http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 426#p58403

I do have Lion 10.7.2. To be honest I just read the links you posted, and I could not honestly figure out how to reach the point where I find the user part. I am new to Mac. :(

Go to http://blog.mrgeckosmedia.com/2011/08/f ... -lion.html and follow the instructions except substitute OpenOffice.org for LibreOffice in the instructions.

The file you need to delete should be called org.openoffice.script.savedState

I have the same error problem when opening Microsoft office products

Actually, I did not have the openOffice app down loaded when I was getting the erros. Iam using:

Parallels access and desktop

Microsoft document connection, and

Microsoft 2011

My Parallels access worked fine until I upgraded to Maverick

I was able to get to the user library and the openOffice.script.state file, but there was no internal file to delete

This is an OpenOffice forum and the replies in this thread are specific to that program. If you are getting a similar problem with other programs, the appropriate place to seek help is in their support sites.

This problem that seems common and has been happening for me ever since the update to the Mac OS which is called Yosemite. OpenOffice 3.3 will not open without the "Restore Widows" prompt, and now the prompt will not go away, even after deleting the famous org.openoffice.script.savedState file. When going to the OpenOffice 3.3 site, I see that it's for Os 10.7 (Lion), and 10.9 (Mavericks), but nothing for Yosemite, which means Huston, we have a problem! I'd like this prompt gone now! Please help. Thanks.

After deleting the savedState file force quit OpenOffice.

OpenOffice 3.3 is a very old version. where did you download it from?

The latest version is Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 with system requirements for OS X 10.7 (Lion) or higher. I am using it with OS X 10.10.1 (Yosemite)
Only download it from the official site: http://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html

I haven't heard back and I'm still having the problem, and I'm willing to throw in an incentive if you'll help!
Here is more detail on the issue:

The problem began after the upgrade of the OS on my Macbook Pro to Yosemite.

I seem to have 2 versions of Open Office!
Open Office 4.1.1 works fine, but the old version was accidentally opened, and cannot be shut down due to the Restore Windows error.

The program cannot be uninstalled, forced to quit, and deleting the file:
org.openoffice.script.savedState
does not help! I even deleted the whole folder with the text files and the script file.
I cannot empty the trash, either, while this error is running, because the error on the screen means the app is running, and trash won't empty an associated file with a running program.

None of the fixes work for me! Am I going to have to live with this error on my screen forever? Help, please! I'll do something nice for you if you help me! I make amazing homemade chocolate, for instance! I'll sing you a song or paint you a picture, or bake you brownies, or make you cookies!!!

Thank you kindly,
~Season

Have you tried rebooting your Mac (Hint: be sure to uncheck "Reopen windows when logging back in"

Um, yes. It won't restart because I can't quit Open Office.

Okay. You say you can't force quit OpenOffice or restart your computer. Strange.

Try a hard shutdown. Hold down the power button on you computer until it shuts down.

What is the same thin? Details matter.

If you can't do a hard shutdown (keep holding the power button down, at least for 2 minutes) you have a computer problem.

Alternate methods to do hard shutdown:
1. On a desktop unplug the power cord.
2. On a notebook remove the battery (if it is removable).

This was of no help at all. My computer has a long battery life! I was not able to shut down through anything but the terminal with a friend who knows Unix platforms. I did shutdown from root and then deleted Open Office completely! Going to LibreOffice now! Thanks! See ya!
