Unavailable Fonts
Unavailable Fonts
I have installed two (non-ttf) fonts on my system (Futura and Frutiger) and they are not available in any OOo application. I have been searching the internet for quite a long time without any real result. The fonts are placed in ~/Library/Fonts as well as ~/Users/MyUser/Library/Fonts and ~/System/Library/Fonts.
Is there any way to get the fonts working in OOo?
Thanks a lot in advance for any helpful hint.
Regards
Gordon

Re: Unavailable Fonts
I vaguely remember that some fonts didn't show in OpenOffice on a Mac until there was only one entry for them.

See that one perhaps: [Solved] All OpenOffice.org files changed into italics?.

Re: Unavailable Fonts
I have tried every mentioned solution, but nothing did work. There are no duplicate entries in the FontBook. It seems as if this is rather an issue with OOo than with my Mac.
Any further ideas anyone?

Re: Unavailable Fonts
Update: It seems as if I can manually enter the name of the font into the corresponding field and it works, but this is just a workaround for me. Still I would like the fonts to appear in the drop down menu ...

Re: Unavailable Fonts
The problem is, that they always talk about files having a suffix like ".pfa" or ".pfb". My files do not have a suffix. The information "PostScript Type 1 outline font" is only displayed in the Finder.
I have copied the .afm files in my font folder, but it did not help.
The "workaround" I posted above does not work by the way. It is not the right font that is used when typing into the font field.

I'm having the same problem. I've installed the font and it's showing up in Gimp and in TextEdit, but not OpenOffice. Have been searching for a while. Many solutions are for versions of OOO that use X11, but from my understanding, version 3 doesn't use X11.

Re: Unavailable Fonts
My problem with type 1 fonts is that they are listed, but not printed.
I tried to make the afm file. But Windows doesn't recognize it as a valid font type. Same goes for the .pfb part of the font.
It seems windows 7 only needs the PFM file to install the font.
For example I use the font ICT officina sans book. I can choose it from the fonts list and when I publish it as PDF it's also included.
But my Kyocera Mita laser printer doesn't print it.
I also tried removing the user setting files as adviced somewhere, still no result.
It's taking now more then a day of my time. Very frustrating

Re: Unavailable Fonts
Odd that it would show up in Gimp, but not OpenOffice. I'm guessing that OpenOffice uses FreeType to render fonts. If you only have the bitmap fonts with PostScript outlines, then it might not be able to read them. Most Mac OS X apps use the font capabilities of Mac OS X, so most Mac apps don't care if your font is PostScript or TrueType.kenfitzsimmons wrote:I'm having the same problem.
