I had been using OpenOffice bundled with Ubuntu (10.04). Due to various reasons I have now moved to Standard OpenOffice Version. I uninstalled UBUNTU-OpenOffice completely and Standard OO Install was completed successfully. But I'm now having issues with typing other language text (Indian languages hindi, kannada ....). This was not a problem on Ubuntu Openoffice and is still not a problem on other applications like gedit, komposer .... so, I know the SCIM setup is fine. But, on all my OpenOffice applications it just renders English Text. As said before Fonts, SCIM are OK, for they are perfectly functional in other apps except OpenOffice. As recommended I've installed latest JDK/JRE. too. Also, I've already tried configuring Tools/Options/Language Settings/Languages/CTL without much luck.
Suggestions and Solutions are greatly appreciated.

Is the language correctly configured for the style you use when writing?

Re: Language issues after switching to Standard OOo
Have you tried:
$ export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
$ export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
$ export QT_IM_MODULE=scim
$ scim -d
$ soffice -writer
Have you tried using iBus rather than SCIM?
$ export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
$ export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
$ export QT_IM_MODULE=scim
$ scim -d
$ soffice -writer
Have you tried using iBus rather than SCIM?

This didn't help. When I can type other language text quite well in other applications, doesn't that mean SCIM is doing its job and shouldn't be suspected !?!Robert Tucker wrote:Have you tried:

I've tried other languages under CLT and also enabling Asian Language checkbox. None of this has helped.

Re: Language issues after switching to Standard OOo
In years past it was the case that sometimes the distro version of OpenOffice worked with SCIM while that downloaded from the OpenOffice.org site didn't and sometimes the OpenOffice.org site version worked with SCIM and the distro version didn't.
I have iBus as the default IME as is the case with Gnome as it is supplied now. I used the lines I gave above and SCIM worked perfectly with LibreOffice (I now have a problem getting iBus to work again – I may have to logout and then log back in again!).
You are using SCIM because of the problem with the keyboard input reported here:
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=408188 ?

Can't see your screenshot BTW. Can't you upload it here (see How to attach a document here)?

Re: Language issues after switching to Standard OOo
This is a transliteration/font issues which we experienced and have overcome a while back. we modified the urs\share\m17n\kn-itrans.mim file to get around it. It's not a perfect solution but it has worked for us.Robert Tucker wrote: You are using SCIM because of the problem with the keyboard input reported here:

[SOLVED] Language issues after switching to Standard OOo
This is now solved. Once I knew what to look for, I found that there are/were many having the same issue.
Thanks to my friend, Abhi for this link, http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 16&t=26901
After I followed those instructions (in the link) - I got this error....
(soffice:1499): Gtk-WARNING **: /opt/openoffice.org3/program/../basis-link/ure-link/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.11' not found (required by /usr/lib/libscim-1.0.so.8)
This link helped me over come that error

That bridged SCIM and OOo. Now I can type Kannada and Hindi.
Robert, it was interesting to find your name in the first link too.
