2.4 Does Not Recognize *ANY* Printer / Can't Add Printer

Post by AlbacoreBob »

***Updated with new information***

I recently installed OO.o 2.4 and I cannot get it to recognize printers.

I haved tried and old HP LaserJet 4 and an Epson Stylus CX6000.

I have reinstalled the printers, drivers, and OO.o in various orders several times.

I am using a Dell Insperon1520 running Windows XP SP2.

All other applications can see and use the printers. OO.o 2.4 tells me "No default printer found. Please choose a printer and try again."

The ability to even choose a printer is greyed out. It happens both the "print" function and the "Printer Settings"function.

I can export to a pdf....but would really like to have it print proper.

Thanks for any support.

If you uninstall the printer and install it again now that OOo has already been installed, does it help?

I have tried all manner of uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, its drivers and OO.o with no sucess.

It won't see Adobe PDF to printto either, though I don't evenknow if that's supported. I'm extremely brand new to OO.o

I am currently experiencing the same problem w/ OO 2.4.1. I shut down the firewall but that doesn't seem to help. All other programs can see and utilize the system printers, but the OO programs do not recognize any of the system printers. OO 2.4.1 was updated recently from version 2.3.1. Attached is a screen shot of the dialog box. Any suggestions?

Win XP sp 2

Thanks for the help,

Jed

I am having the same problem using Windows Vista. I reloaded the printer driver and used differrent revs of OO 1.1, 2.0 and 2.4. If convert the document to PDF or "Preview in WEB Browser prints fine. Is there any solution for this problem?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

ted, have you tried to temporarily disable any antivirus, antispyware and firewall software?
These may interfere with OpenOffice, so it is worth a try to test it that way.

Another idea: maybe your user profile is corrupt.
So you could try to create a new one. This is automatically done by OOo if you rename the profile folder.
This is done as follows:
At first, close OpenOffice altogether (also end the quickstarter in the system tray if active).
If your windows user name (login name) is "phil" and your system drive is C:, then your OOo user profile folder is
C:\Documents and settings\phil\Application data\OpenOffice.org2
Now rename the profile folder to e.g.
C:\Documents and settings\phil\Application data\OpenOffice.org2.old
and start one of the OpenOffice applications again. Then a new folder is created.

You could also delete the folder, but renaming it allows you to rename it back in case this does not help (bringing you back your old settings which are lost when a new folder is created!).
Note that when uninstalling the profile folder is not deleted, meaning that after reinstallation, the old profile is still active.

Finally, you could try to run a registry cleaning utility like CCleaner and try to reinstall the printer afterwards.

Hope that helps!

I reloaded the printer driver one more time and finally worked. I do not know; it was an issue with Vista and my old Lexmark printer. There was nothing to do with Oo.
