[Solved] I want to install Writer only

Post by Zefyrinus »

I don't want the whole pack of programs, because it said it would take 9 hours to download (seriously!), only Writer. How should I go about doing that? I have Windows Vista, and want the Swedish version of the program.

You download only whole application, no separate Writer installation pack.

If you run a custom install, then you're able to install Writer only if you want. But there is quite no benefit because the modules are less than 10MB each, the whole installation is made of common files in fact. Moreover, you'll surely need another component once so you'll end up installing everything. See also: How do I download *only* Impress?

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Hmm, the discussion there is a bit confusing. :?

I don't know how to do that.

I don't think so. I wouldn't even know how to use Calc, Base or Math, because that's so not my area.

*sigh* I guess I'll let it download overnight then...

During the installation, you'll be asked for a complete install or a custom one.

You may need Math if you once have to write a nice looking formula (even a mere division).

I agree that the "Impress" link is confusing. Here's what is missing. Maybe Hagar can supply the info for us.

What is the size of the total download?
What is the size of the total install?
What is the size of the custom install for only Writer?
What does each other component do and what are their installed sizes?

If we have this info, we can make a more intelligent decision. Anything else is not going to give us the information users need. While we all love to believe everything everyone tells us, it is foolish to do so without the facts.

Thanks in advance.

Depending on just which file you download, about 150MB.
Total install on my Win2k system of OOo3.3 m9 build is 380MB
I'd hazard a guess of a Writer only install of about 300MB
Each other component in a single component install would come out about the same, because of shared libraries and modules.

I'm a user like you, not a tester or anything else. So if you want to know, just test it. A productivity suite should be considered as a whole package. Too much troubles now and afterward for a so small benefit now that HD space is not an issue.
