Missing vcl resource
Missing vcl resource
I have downloaded open office 2x with the same results that I receive when I attempt to open the application files associated with open office. For example, when I attempt to open an application file "swriter.exe" a message window appears with the following test "Missing vcl resource. This indicates that files vital to localization are missing. You might have a corrupt installation."
What is the solution to this problem?

Re: Missing vcl resource
You should check the md5sum of the installer downloaded, it may have been corrupted; see here : http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.1/md5sums.html, there is a link to the instructions on top of that page.

Re: Missing vcl resource
I'd like to know a solution also.
I've downloaded 2.3.1 and md5sums were all fine. Happened to an user 3 days after I installed.

Don't know, it's the first time I see that issue !
What version of Windows are you using ?
Have you tried to disable the antivirus and firewall during installation ?

FW is not active.
AV shouldn't be an issue as it worked on all other computers.
Anyway I have an idea of what could have been wrong in this particular case:
The user had a previous version of OO installed before (previous and other language). It might have to to with the folder OO creates in user's profile directory.
The new install used the same folder profile.
Any of you guys had this same issue?

Re: Missing vcl resource
Have you tried to rename the OOo user profile (\Documents and settings\<user>\Application data\OpenOffice.org2)?

Re: Missing vcl resource
No, because what I did was simple, reinstalled OOo 2.3.1
Can't remember if I deleted the profile dir.
Was long time ago.
(never happened again and I've installed 50 more OOo's)

Re: Missing vcl resource
Hi Everyone,
I am having the same problem as everyone else on this issue. I have had OOo for about 4 or 5 years now and have never had any issues with it. When I tried to download the latest version of OOo I got this message: The windows installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in safe mode or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance I also got an error message that said I should find and use a Window Installer that is not downloaded into my computer. I don't know if this rules out the md5sum issue. I got a bit confused on the directions of that.
I appreciate any and all information and help on this issue as I have everything in OOo.
God Bless you all.
As Always,
In His Glory,
arkay
