Fonts from a different repertory

Issues with installing under all versions of MS Windows

Fonts from a different repertory

Postby patdu59 » Fri Nov 06, 2009 9:12 pm

Hi everybody.

Here is my question : once Ooo is installed, it uses the fonts which are in c:\windows\fonts
However, I'd like Ooo to get its fonts from another repertory. We have a rather big network in my school and I'd like to create a repertory in which I could put all the fonts that the teachers use.
For example, I'd like Ooo to find the fonts in p:\applications pour les élèves\polices
Is it possible ?

Thanks in advance for your help

There should be a program spadmin.exe in the same directory where the other office executables reside. It lets you configure the availlable printers and fonts.
Please, edit this thread's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

Hi Villeroy

Thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately, I can't find this program. I've just made a search... I asked Windows to find it, but it couldn't :?

Is there another solution ?
I had a look in Ooo options, paths but there aren't any fonts paths...

Hi

I tried to find spadmin.exe on google, to download it, but I didn't find it.
Do you know if I can download it somewhere ?

Thanks in advance

Fonts are a system function. I think you might need to use a font manager, which will keep your collection(s) of fonts in packages and allow easy switching between such collections. In any event, as the fonts are required locally you will need to download them to your computer, whether you put them in a font manager or not. StartButton / Settings / Control Panel / Fonts then File / Install New Font. The "Copy Fonts to font folder" setting should probably be checked, as if your remote font site is not available, who can say what will happen.

Edit: I think spadmin.exe may be an additional program on linux machines.

Hi

Thanks for your answer
Unfortunately, I can't install anything locally on the computer... It would be too long to explain why
That's why I want to install my fonts in a specific place on a server.

Indeed spadmin is for Linux

I'm not very experienced when it comes to setting up Windows policies, but I guess you can use a workstation policy to point the fonts repository to a different folder. I don't think that's possible on user level (user or group policy), but you may be lucky.

In any case, I suppose you need an AD server to do this (or some equivalent ; Novell's NDS/eDirectory have some policy setting options for Windows).
