Re: Really newbie question
1. Please read the Survival Guide for the forum for next threads. See the title section especially.
2. I move your thread in the Base forum.
3. You need to create the database first I think.

Re: Create database-no options in drop down menu
Thanks for response.
1) I already have, (Read the Survival guide), which is why I posted in the new user section.
2) I am TRYING to create a database, which is why I am in the wizard.
3) There is no other option in the "File" menu to try. They ALL lead to the same drop down menu, which as I stated is empty.
Cheers.

Have you created any tables yet? If not, this is your problem.
In Base, Tables store the data. Forms are used to display the data. (You can see your data is a simple Table layout in Tables, but forms let you have much more control over the layout of the data).
I've seen this question enough to think that the terminology must be different in some other database apps.

Re: Create database-no options in drop down menu
Sorry, I was not clear enough : you have to create the fields that will be in the database. It's done by creating Tables IIRC.
When you run the wizard, in 2nd step, in the area After the database has been saved, what do you want to do?, check both options below. OOo will give you some examples.

Re: Create database-no options in drop down menu
My suggestion
first read OOo help pressing F1 and selecting Database Functionality.
or http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Base
or http://sheepdogguides.com/fdb/fdb1main.htm
Another trick is that when you start creating new database after saving, it opens on Form part, first click on Table on left side and start table wizard, you could create database, and after that you could create Form to bring data into database.
