[Issue] Embed sound file in a presentation in Impress

Post by irv »

I am creating presentations with Text and audio slides. I have the slide timed to change when the audio finishes. It all works great up to this point.
The next step I did was to upload the odp file to my server where it can be downloaded to another computer. This also worked.
Now I download it to another computer where the presentations runs but with out sound.
Apparently the sound file is not embedded in the presentation odp file. I have not found a way to embed the sound file, so it must be just inserting a pointer to the sound file and not doing a embed of it.
My question is: Is there a way to actually embed the sound in the odp file and not just point to the sound file?

My OS is Ubuntu 10.04 OpenOffice version is 3.2

Welcome to the forum!

Sadly, you can't embed such external object, see: Save presentation with sound for other computer.

There is a report for that, the strange thing is that it hasn't any votes yet (you should add 2 votes, I've just voted), and no trace of this issue here neither! See Issue 81753 -Add option to save presentations with all links embedded.

A workaround that may work for you is to put your presentation _and_ its video and/or sound files in a dedicated directory, and send this whole directory to the remote machine

Thanks for the replies, this is what I found when reading the PDF manual. I was so hoping that there was a way to embed the sound but now I see it just can't be done.

You should subscribe and vote for it (up to 2 votes per issue). There was several threads about that here, I can't believe this bug isn't more popular.

I have found a really cool web-based alternative called impress.js [https://github.com/bartaz/impress.js/]. Here is a demo: [http://bartaz.github.io/impress.js/]. To add audio include this plugin: [https://github.com/danielsimons1/impress-audio]
