Slideshow from directory of sound & image files?

Post by slabo »

Hello,

Problem now changed to the following:
directory containing files name 1.jpg, 2.jpg... and 1.mp3, 2.mp3, etc... how to make a slide show to show each picture with the corresponding sound? Thanks.

The captions, i manage to print to pictures using imagemagic.

At the school i''m working at, we've compiled a spreadsheet with the following header:
  • Caption
    Sound: Location of sound file
    Image: Location of image file
Any ideas how can to make a slideshow from this? Each slide should show image, caption, and play sound automatically according to the spreadsheet. Total slides ~5,000. I searched the forum, closest solution I found is the photo album creator extension, but if i use that then i have to add captions manually to each slide, which beats the purpose of having the material in the spreadsheet in the first place.
In case interested, this is review material for English second language students.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks

Why have it in a spreadsheet, and not in Impress, in the first place?

I can't think of a way to do this, but it might be easier to find a way if you make a new spreadsheet with just four or five of these entries in it, and then attach that here so we can look at it.

Why in Calc? Because I have many slides, and this way I can keep track of what I already wrote. Attached file sample.
Any suggestions?

You didn't attach the file.

Calc isn't a tool for manipulating text.
If it was already in Impress you wouldn't have an issue.
if it was already in Writer you could export it as an Impress outline.

Sorry about that, now attached sample calc file and sample Impress file. The problem is making a slideshow for the ~5000 question/answer pairs.
I thought i start with a spreadsheet and then make an xml file of some structure to generate the slideshow.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Ok, i just figured out a way to automate adding text to images via imagemagic. I can write a macro in Calc to do that. So now the slideshow needs only images and sound.
Next step is somehow to bulk create slides from pairs of pictures and sounds, provided i name the images the same as the sound files. So I don't have to use a spreadsheet to create the presentation.
So the problem as follows:
How to create a slideshow from a directory with the following structure:
  • 1.jpg
    2.jpg
    1.mp3
    2.mp3

    etc..
Any suggestions?
