Tilde underneath character

Post by jdpipe »

Hi all

How can I write a tilde underneath a character. Currently I only see 'tilde x' which puts a tilde over the letter. When I studied vector algebra/analysis, it was our convention to put a tilde underneath vectors, but AFAICT this isn't possible in OOo. Is there any way I can do it?

Cheers

You can fake it with something like this: binom x tilde "", but it may not align well with other elements.

You can try:
a csub rightarrow

Ah yes, but that would be different, right? :)

The rightarrow was only an example, you can put anything you want instead, including a custom character

In order to add custom characters to Math, see here:

That's close, but the tilde is still rather distance from the character it should be underneath (cf what 'a csub rightarrow' looks like)...

Operating system? MathType will do it with GUI using sub-sub symbol then enlarge the character.

I'm looking at using OpenOffice with only FOSS here. MathType is commercial AIUI.
